Marijuana pictures posted on Facebook?
NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. - A 19 year old North Fort Myers man posted on his facebook page in front of what appears to be marijuana plants. There are several picture of the alleged plant, and even comments referring to smoking pot. We showed the pictures to Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott.
Social media has opened up a huge avenue for the general public to express themselves - even if the image by some can be construed as illegal.
"Its amazing what people put about themselves in this case on facebook or whatever," said Scott.
But is this activity illegal in the eyes of the law?
"Don't know if it's a real marijuana plant. That's the problem," said Scott.
The sheriff says prosecuting someone who posts these types of pictures would be nearly impossible.
But law enforcement sometimes follows up on pictures like this. In this case, after we brought this page to the Sheriff's office, they sent out their narcotics unit to investigate. They found no plants and the young man wasn't arrested.
