Estero firefighters honored for saving life
ESTERO, Fla. - Three firefighters were presented with Phoenix Awards during Tuesday evening's Estero fire commission meeting for saving the life of a man back in July.
"I don't have the words, but I do want time thank them," said Derek Lohrey.
Lohrey went into cardiac arrest on July 11th while having dinner at Stir Crazy restaurant at Coconut Point Mall in Estero.
"Derek was sitting down at a bench and he just keep saying Debra, Debra something (is) wrong and he just kind of collapse," said wife Debra Lohrey.
A woman who was sitting at the bar gave Lohrey CPR until LT. Tom Lentz, LT. Steve Harris, firefighter Cory Heller and Engineer Laura Whelan arrived on the scene.
During a ceremony at the beginning of the fire commission meeting, Lentz, Harris and Heller were given their awards. Whelan was unable to attend.
"We are just doing our job so every day. This could happen anytime and it did and luckily enough we got a save out of it," said Estero firefighter, Cory Heller.
The Lohreys are still trying to find the woman who performed CPR, who is only known as "Tina."
"Tina if you're out there, we'd love to be able to thank you," said Derek Lohrey.
In addition to the work of the Estero firefighters, Lohrey knows that the woman who started to perform CPR on him immediately - probably helped save his live.
