Upside down US flag flying in Cape Coral
CAPE CORAL, Fla. - The stars and stripes flying proudly in Cape Coral. Well, not exactly. Take a closer look, It's been hanging like this for months at the home of John Gionet and it hasn't gone un-noticed.
"So, why the flag upside down,"? asked Fox 4 reporter John Rupolo.
Gionet talked to us wearing an American flag imprinted shirt. He says he's not being American he just doesn't care for the way this country is heading under President Obama.
"4 years of unemployment over 8 percent, 16 trillion dollars in debt, and the Middle East is burning down," said Gionet.
A Korean war vet has taken notice. He travels by Gionet's house twice a week on the way to the golf course.
"Do you find it offensive the flag is being flown upside down,"? asked Fox 4 reporter John Rupolo.
"I sure do," said the vet.
We also talked to a leader of a local veterans group he also said that flying the flag upside down is disrespectful to the men and women in uniform.
Ralph Santillo is a local veterans advocate who also just opened up the Southwest Florida Military Museum and Library in Cape Coral.
"I would like him to reconsider," said Santillo.
Gionet says he has nothing against veterans in fact his own son served 3 tours in Iraq.
"It's protecting their rights as veterans," said Gionet.
So when is he planning on flying it upright?
"November sixth, election day," said Gionet.
