Lee Commission Candidates on Medstar
LEE COUNTY, Fla. - It's still not flying. The Medstar program grounded in mid-August after over billing some 3 million dollars without proper accreditation. The fiasco has the full attention of both candidates running for the Lee County Commission district 3 seat.. One of those candidates is Charlie Whitehead.
"Its ugly," said Whitehead.
County Manager Karen Hawes facing criticism from political leaders in surrounding communities. and commissioner Brian Bigelow is calling for her to step down saying she knew about Medstar's problems months ago, but did little to fix it.
"You might want to have a discussion with the chairman and negotiate an end to your being the County Manager," said Bigelow.
We asked District 3 Commissioner candidate Larry Kiker who he believes should be held accountable.
"I don't know," said Kiker.
We asked the same question to Commission candidate Whitehead.
"Karen Hawe's has questions to answer," said Whitehead,
Now the county is scrambling trying to put Medstar back in the air or privatize the program. We asked the two county commissioner candidates about that.
"Maybe privatization," said Kiker.
"We need to look at all avenues,' said Whitehead.
