New Cape Coral VA hospital set to open in December
CAPE CORAL, Fla. - It's a 60 million dollar, 220,000 square foot VA outpatient clinic. Veterans like Walter Molinda looking forward to its December opening. He now travels here to the Fort Myers VA clinic for services but the trip to the Cape will be easier and shorter for him.
"I think it's gonna be great. My trips to the VA will be shorter because I live in North Port," said Molinda.
The Fort Myers clinic is slated to close when the Cape VA opens its doors. There will be an additional 70 jobs created in addition to the already 330 the Fort Myers clinic now employs. The facility will offer outpatient services similar to the ones the Fort Myers clinic offers but.......
"But in an expanded capacity and in the future probably 18 to 24 months down the road we will be adding additional new services," said Jason Dangel VA Spokesperson.
The VA hospitals in Tampa and in St. Petersburg will continue to take care of the major surgeries for southwest Florida's veterans.
