Median changes coming to Cape Coral Parkway
CAPE CORAL, Fla. - A surveillance video, although very difficult to look at, is a strong reminder of safety issues on Cape Coral Parkway. An 80 year old woman hit head on by a car while crossing Vincennes just off of Cape Coral Parkway.
The Cape's Community Redevelopment Agency Director John Jacobsen says the medians are a pedestrian's nightmare. He says the Cape's main thoroughway needs pedestrian walkways every 100 feet.
"For years we have been trying to fix these problems," said Jacobsen.
Some of the vegetation in the middle of the median strip is completely out of control and even trying to cross Cape Coral Parkway is a safety hazard.
Some areas are simply impassable but it doesn't take long to see pedestrians making the journey to get ot the other side.
"You will see people crossing this median climing thru shrubbery all day long," said Jacobsen.
