Deputy involved shooting in Fort Myers
FORT MYERS, Fla. - It all started when deputies ran a plate on a vehicle on Treeline.
"It was a stolen vehicle," said Sgt. Stephanie Eller of LCSO.
The vehicle took off once deputies turned on their lights and attempted to ram the Sheriff's Office cruiser. As the pursuit continued, Deputies used what's called a PIT technique using their crusiers to try and stop the fleeing vehicle. The suspect's car then spun out of control. 2 Deputies approached and tried to arrest the driver.
"But he tried to hit the Deputies with the car at which time Deputies fired on the vehicle," said Eller.
The driver wasn't hit and the pursuit continued on Daniels Parkway.
Once on Daniels, the vehicle headed eastbound where Deputies put down stop sticks in hopes of trying to end the high speed chase. Instead, 2 other vehicles ran over the strips but it didn't go un-noiticed by the driver speeding down Daniels.
"He must have seen it and made a u-turn. He lost control again and that's when we arrested him," said Eller.
