PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - A homeless man in Port Charlotte is in custody accused of attacking another man with a machete.

Deputies arrested Ernesto Castro, 36, after another man went to the hospital Friday night with wounds he says he sustained after being attacked by a machete. The victim fractured his hand, cut a tendon, and required several stitches.

Investigators say the attack happened at a homeless camp in the area of Barrett Street and Delia Avenue in Port Charlotte.

The victim said he and Castro were fighting over a cell phone when he says Castro left the camp, then came back with a machete and started chopping at him.

After the attack, detectives went to the camp and questioned Castro. He was arrested and taken to the Charlotte County Jail on charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
