PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - A phone solicitation warning from the Charlotte County Sheriff involving the Salvation Army.

The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office says someone is calling residents asking for donations on behalf of the Salvation Army. However, the charity does not solicit over the phone.

Victims say the caller requests donations, and asks residents to put donated items out next to their mailbox with the initials "SA" on them. The caller tells the victims a Salvation Army representative will stop to pick up the items.

If you receive such a call, you are urged to let the Salvation Army know at (941) 629-3170.
