Predatory towing in Cape Coral?
CAPE CORAL. Alva resident Cullen Chambers pulled into a parking lot not far from the Mambo restaurant in Cape Coral on Monday. She was having breakfast with her sister but when they returned to the car, it was gone.
"I was wrongfully towed," said Chambers.
Chambers says she thought it was OK to park in the lot behind the plaza. It ended up costing her 103 dollars.
"I saw the sign and it said customers only," said Chambers.
Chambers says the sign is misleading because it doesn't specify what customers can park in the lots and spaces in the plaza. She says she called the police, filed a report, and spoke to an officer.
"He said this has been happening a lot and they are investigating," said Chambers.
So, we tracked down that towing company, American Towing, but the gates were locked.
We put a call into them but they hung up on us. We also talk to Mambo who said there have been many recent tows and it's hurting business.
"They hide over there behind the garbage cans by the bank," said the manager of the Mambo.
