Will The Next American Idol Come From Southwest Florida?

This weekend American Idol has been holding second round auditions in Miami. FOX 4 caught up with a couple of contestants from Southwest Florida as they chased their dream to become the next American Idol.

"I'm a R&B singer," said Tessa O'Gilvie.

O'Gilvie is from Fort Myers and certainly has the look of a R&B singer. American Idol rules won't allow contestants in the second round to sing for news cameras. However, we still wanted to know what type of R&B sound this Cypress Lake High School grad has.

"I would say like a Whittney or Mariah, but more up to date," said O'Gilvie.

O'Gilvie is a trained singer from the American Musical & Dramatic Academy in New York. She's won numerous talent shows including one at the Apollo Theater in the "Big Apple".

Carroy Bethea is a grad from Lehigh Senior High School. Bethea says he is the total package when it comes to being an entertainer. He points to his ability to sing, dance and act. If you ever meet Bethea, you will see he has his own look and style going for him.

"What's up with the hair," said FOX 4's Donald Robinson. "I'm just different like that and everybody that knows me in Fort Myers knows I do crazy stuff with my hair all the time," said Bethea.

You can find out if O'Gilvie or Bethea made it to Hollywood by tuning into American Idol in January on FOX 4.
