ROOKSVILLE, Fla. (AP) - School officials say two Hernando High School students have contracted the bacteria infection known as MRSA.
The Tampa Bay Times reports Hernando County school officials sent home letters in October to notify parents and let them know how to take precautions.
Superintendent Lori Romano says she doesn't have information on the condition of the infected students.
MRSA stands for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. Health officials say it can be difficult to treat because it is resistant to many kinds of antibiotics.
Officials say the infection often begins as a pimple or boil  and is most commonly spread by having close physical contact with an infected person.
