NAPLES, Fla. - Demolition work started Wednesday to rebuild the Greater Naples YMCA, which was partially destroyed in a fire last September.

Construction of the new Healthy Living Center will start after the 10-day demolition ends.

The Healthy Living Center will include new state-of-the-art equipment, a basketball court, spaces for spinning and yoga, as well as classroom space for learning about preparing nutritious meals and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Expanded to two floors, the center will offer nearly 50,000 square feet, with a second gym. It also will have space for working out 24 hours a day and six group exercise rooms.

Scheduled for completion at the end of 2014, the L-shaped complex will have a modernistic new stucco facade, with tall impact-resistant glass windows and red swags that will be made of either powder-coated aluminum or a sturdy fabric.  The project will cost approximately $7 million, including $4 million from outside contributions that have already been raised.
