LOVER'S KEY, Fla. - More pilot whales have died in a pod that swam into Estero Bay through New Pass near Lover's Key on Monday.

The number of dead whales stands at eight out of the original number of 14 that came into the bay.

The U.S. Coast Guard re-opened New Pass after closing it late Monday to allow wildlife experts to assist the pod out of the area.

Another pod of whales has been spotted swimming in the waters off of Marco Island.
