PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - A major Port Charlotte retailer will close its doors after Christmas.  Toys R's Us tells FOX 4 News the property they rent has been sold.

Alex Ropka said, "I'm actually surprised because it's been open as long as I've been here."

As shoppers stopped in Tuesday afternoon they expressed their disappointment over the news.

James Green said,  "I was bummed out. This Toys R Us has been around since I was a kid. This is the place where you can go to find the most toys"

Toys R' Us officials said they do not have plans for a new store anywhere in the Port Charlotte area.  Some people asked, is it an issue of it not having enough business?  That answered.

Amy Green said, "They're really just not that busy so I really wasn't surprised. (Culbreth): Are you disappointed? I'm disappointed. Ft. Myers is the next closest one to us and it's quite a trip"
