FORT MYERS, Fla. - A man caught on camera stealing a purse at a Fort Myers Publix two weeks ago turned himself to law enforcement Tuesday.

Thanks to a combination of tips to Crime Stoppers and the cooperation of the suspect himself, 50-year-old Terry Cartright gave himself up to law enforcement at his North Fort Myers home.

Shortly after the surveillance photos were sent out to local media outlets, several anonymous tips came in identifying Cartright as the suspect.

However those tips were followed up by a phone call from Cartright directly to the Sheriff’s Office, stating that he was the man in the photos.  Cartright told detectives that he thought the purse belonged to someone else, which is why he removed it from the cart.  This afternoon, he was charged with grand theft and is currently enroute to the Lee County Jail for booking.

This is Cartright’s 17th arrest in Lee County since 1988.  Included on his criminal dossier are charges of DUI, burglary, dealing in stolen property, battery, drug possession, eluding officers, contempt, violation of a domestic violence injunction for protection and driving with a suspended license.
