Suspect in custody after reports of shots fired at Wisconsin Children's Hospital

WAUWATOSA, Wis. - A suspect is in custody after reports of shots fired at Children's Hospital near Milwaukee Thursday afternoon, the hospital confirmed.

The hospital says there is "no continuing threat."

Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke says police tried to serve the suspect a warrant for his arrest for felony possesion of a firearm on the 7th floor Neonatal Unit.

The suspect fled, and pulled out a handgun. Officers then fired several shots at the suspect, wounding him. He is currently being treated at Froedtert Hosptial.

Sources tell TODAY'S TMJ4 that the suspect did not fire any shots, but was taken into custody by the police.

The Hospital released a statement Thursday afternoon:

"Children's Hospital of Wisconsin is currently on lockdown while law enforcement responds to a report of an active shooter. We have implemented our emergency protocols and will provide updates as available."
