Strange lights over Southwest Florida
CAPE CORAL, Fla. - A strange sight over Southwest Florida.
From time to time we get reports of flying lights in the sky but video can be hard to come by.
One Cape Coral man says he has proof of something strange happening here recently.
"My curiosity is totally piqued," said Jason Godin. It's that curiosity that usually takes him to the skies on many nights.
"Every night we have planes that go overhead," Godin said. "I know what they look like. This was not an aircraft."
At about 7:30 Thursday night on his lanai in Southwest Cape Coral, Godin saw something he thinks could be out of this world.
"I'd say it was just almost like a fireball in the sky. A round, glowing red light."
Godin and his wife grabbed a camera and saw about 5 or 6 glowing lights in single file floating out over the gulf. In just a matter of minutes, they were gone.
"It seemed like they were climbing in altitude and getting more dim the further they got away," he said. "Just completely unexplainable."
As a pilot-in-training, Godin is convinced it is not a plane. However that is as far as his certainty goes.
If he saw the lights, he knows someone else did too. According to the American Meteor Society, they may have.
Within 24 hours of what Godin saw, there were similar reports on the other side of Florida's coast.
"In your mind, could this be anything other than UFOs?" asked reporter Kelli Stegeman.
"Of course it could be. I just don't know what it would be," replied Godin.
That question, for now, remains a mystery.
"I don't see an explanation, other than certainly a UFO, meaning Unitdentifiable Flying Object," he said. "It was certainly unidentifiable."
We are working to find out from experts what these lights could be.
