SWFL Young Republicans want Radel to finish term
FORT MYERS, Fla. - SWFL Young Republicans have decided to take a stand against the party's call for Congressman Trey Radel to resign.
The group released a statement Tuesday revealing that a majority of its members want Radel to stay in office for the remainder of his term. 60 percent of the group favor Radel finishing out his two years in office.
SWFL Young Republicans says it has no opinion on whether Radel should seek re-election.
The group believes the resignation of Radel would place Southwest Florida and the Republican Party at a "severe disadvantage."
They point out that a special election would be costly and take anywhere from four to six months to hold.
The group's statement closed with this, "Although we do not condone Congressman Radel’s actions, we do not believe that the constituents of our district should lose representation due to those actions."
