Questions over private use of Charlotte County owned hanger
PUNTA GORDA, Fla. - 4 in Your Corner received a tip about a Charlotte County owned facility, being used for private purposes.
The tipster sent FOX 4 photos of a boat sitting at the Charlotte County airport on a trailer with no tires next to a hanger. Inside that same hanger is an antique car. We asked if county employees are being allowed to work on their boats and cars on county property.
The boat was delivered Saturday to the county owned maintenance facility. Its owner told FOX 4 he used a county forklift to get the boat off of a flatbed truck. When asked if it would be used for county business, he said, "No."
FOX 4 asked Airport Manager Gary Quill about the boat. He called back and said it would be used to get to an island to get rid of some birds that are dangerous to aircraft. He said the island is near the main runway. We called the island's owner and that news came as something of a surprise.
As for the antique car, Quill said it was being painted over the weekend by an employee who was off duty. But back to the boat, the airport is promising to produce documentation for the "bird chasing" project.
