EVERGLADES, Fla. - A

irboating in parts of Everglades National Park could soon be out of the question if park officials get their way.

They're now proposing a plan for the East Everglades that would ban the use of private boats if they were registered after 1989. That is when the region was added.

Only those who can prove they met that cut-off would get a non-renewable permit for life.

Officials say they're trying to strike a balance between the interests of airboaters and other types of visitors.

Nearly 2,000 boaters would be affected if the proposal is approved.
