ENGLEWOOD, Fla. - Nearly ten pounds of pot landed a Port Charlotte man behind bars.  The investigation started with a tip from California law enforcement.

Charlotte County narcotics officers were watching a home in the 10000 block of Kidron Avenue in Englewood for the delivery of a package that might contain drugs.

They watched last Friday morning as a brown box was delivered to the home mid-morning.  Not long after a man arrived at the home and moved the box from the front door to the side of the house and left the area.  Another 30 minutes passed when another man came and moved the package into the house.

Around 1 p.m. 30-year-old Javier Christopher Rodriguez of Port Charlotte arrived at the home, went inside and then came out with the brown package and put it in the trunk of his vehicle.

An CCSO air unit watched Rodriguez drive through the area at a high rate of speed.  Eventually deputies managed to stop Rodriguez.  A K9 officer alerted to the presence of drugs in the vehicle and that's when deputies searched it and found the brown box.

Inside were ten triple-vacuum-sealed bags containing almost ten pounds of pot.

Rodriguez was charged with possession of cannabis with the intent to distribute, possession of cannabis over 20 grams, possession of paraphernalia and reckless driving.
