PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Charlotte County detectives arrested a Port Charlotte man on multiple charges in connection to a string of recent vehicle burglaries.

23-year-old Brenton Mitchell Schreer is charged with five counts of burglary of a conveyance, two counts of grand theft, three counts of petit theft, four counts of violation of probation, dealing in stolen property and false verification of ownership.

A neighbor tipped off detectives after spotting some of the stolen property inside Schreer's home.
On Tuesday March 25 Sheriff’s deputies took reports of at least eight nighttime vehicle burglaries that occurred in the area of Peachland Blvd. and Hinton Street.  In all of the instances, the vehicles had been left unlocked or the items unsecured.  Most of the items reported to have been taken were GPS units, electronics, wallets and small change.  However, some items stolen included tools as well as an aluminum ladder from the side of one of the houses.
On Sunday one of the burglary victims reported to detectives that he had seen the ladder stolen from the side of his house at a neighbor’s house.  The victim had borrowed the ladder from a friend, so he took a photo of the ladder to confirm with the friend that it was the same one.  The victim told detectives he had also seen a couple of pieces of lawn equipment similar to ones taken from another victim leaning up against the same house.
During the investigation, detectives learned that Schreer, had sold several tools and coins at a local pawn shop on March 25.  Schreer’s residence was the same at the one where the victim had seen the stolen ladder.  The items sold matched items reported stolen by another one of the burglary victims.
Detectives obtained a search warrant for Schreer’s house and served it early Monday morning.   During the search of the residence, the detectives located more property that matched items reported stolen from the various vehicles.
