TALLAHASEE, Fla. - State Attorney Willie Meggs says no charges will be brought against Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston. The Heisman Trophy candidate had been accused of rape.
Thursday's decision clears the way for Winston to finish the season with the No. 1 Seminoles who play for the ACC Championship on Saturday.
Winston faced felony charges after a woman accused him of rape late last year. The allegations didn't come to the attention of the State Attorney until last month when it surfaced in a media report.
Winston had faced felony charges after being accused of sexually assaulting the woman at an off-campus apartment on Dec. 7, 2012.
Winston's attorney Tim Jansen said the his client had consensual sex with his accuser.
The woman, who was a student at FSU, withdrew from classes when the allegations came to light last month.
