Lee County considers incentive package for Gartner Group
FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Lee County Commission is considering a $1.48 million incentive package for a major area employer to add more jobs.
Discussion of an incentive package like the one offered to Hertz to re-locate to Lee County surfaced a few weeks ago.
It was revealed today that the mystery company at the center of the proposal is the Gartner Group which already employees about 600 people in the area.
Commissioners will vote in two weeks on the incentive deal which would help Gartner bring an additional 400 jobs to Southwest Florida. Ultimately, the hope is that Gartner would double its number of Lee County employees to 1200.
Gartner released a statement about the proposal:
"As Gartner continues to grow, we are constantly reviewing our real estate portfolio to meet the requirements of our growing workforce around the world. We are currently in negotiations to determine the location of a new office to accomodate growth and we look forward to sharing more details when a decision has been made."
