FORT MYERS, Fla. - A LaBelle man plead no contest Monday to the murder of his 84-year-old grandfather in December 2011.

21-year-old Clinton Travis Drake entered the plea to a charge of second degree murder and was sentenced to 20 years in state prison followed by 15 years probation.

Police say they found John Drake's head on the passenger floorboard of his pickup truck.

Investigators believe Drake killed his grandfather in Clewiston and then drove his pickup truck to Cape Coral where he abandoned the truck and tried to flee from police on foot.

Clinton Drake's father said his son had started to act strange and erratic two days before the murder.

Police believe Clinton Drake killed his grandfather in the truck, driving it to Cape Coral intersection, and running, before being captured less than an hour later.

When police broke the news to the grandfather's widow, she reportedly said she "felt worse for her grandson because at least her husband had 84 years of good life her grandson was only 19 years old and his life is over."

Police say Clinton Drake confessed to the murder. According to these reports, a family member suggests Drake may have attacked his 13 year old sister in the past.

Clinton Drake remains in jail with no bond.
