CAPE CORAL, Fla.  - Emergency responders used the Jaws of Life to cut a woman free from her car Thursday morning.

A two car crash on Pine Island Road near SW 19th Avenue pinned the woman in the vehicle.

Squad 8 and Engine 2 from the fire department used the powerful tool to remove the passenger's side door.

It's a strategy employed to protect those with injuries.

“We don't tend to rush through making rescues,” Michael Heeder of the Cape Coral Fire Department told FOX 4.

“If the opportunity presents itself, the patient's stable, we make sure that the vehicles stabilized, and we'll take the extra precaution using the Jaws of Life to remove the doors or in some cases the roof to ensure the best patient care possible."

The woman was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The Cape Coral Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash.
