Human remains found in Charlotte County tree
PUNTA GORDA - The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office is investigating human remains located in the Pirate Harbor area last Friday.
According to Sheriff's Office, the new owners of a property on the 24000 block of Jolly Roger Blvd. were having the brush cleared from the lot next door.
The workers clearing the lot discovered a wallet in the brush. Upon further investigation the owner found what appeared to be human remains and a rope hanging from a tree.
The wallet contained the identification of 23-year-old Danny Mordenti who went missing in May of 2008.
Mordenti had recently had some trouble with the law and was expected to meet with probation officers a few days after he disappeared.
At the time of his disappearance from his grandmother's house on Jolly Roger Blvd. a search of the area was conducted using K9s and a helicopter with no results.
Positive identification of the skeletal remains is pending the results of the Medical Examiner's Office investigation.
