Goss out, Benaquisto in
FORT MYERS - After months of speculation Chauncey Goss has announced that he will not be running in the special election to fill the vacant District 19 seat.
Goss said in a statement to FOX 4 that he was saddened and disappointed when he heard about Rep. Trey Radel's cocaine posession arrest.
He went on to say that his responsibility to his family takes priority over the level of commitment required to properly serve as a member of congress.
Goss had finished second to Radel in the 2012 Republican Primary.
Florida State Senator Lisbeth Benaquisto announced her candidacy for Florida's 19th Congressional District Monday.
"We are a nation founded on the liberties that can only come from our Creator," Benaquisto said in a statement. "Our Founders, divinely inspired, took up a cause for which they risked everything including their own lives."
Benaquisto says she wants to go to Washington to help solve the problems that all politicans ignore.
Benaquisto has been a Florida State Senator since 2012.
The special election primary is on April 22 and the special election will be on June 24.
