Get ready for rain Southwest Florida
CAPE CORAL, Fla. - Later today we can expect some rough weather to blow through Southwest Florida; a line of showers and thunderstorms is forecast to produce strong winds and heavy downpours later this afternoon and evening.
A cold front moving across the Gulf Coast states is generating strong south and southwest winds for the region; winds will be 10-20 mph with wind gusts near 30 mph. Our day will start out with increasing clouds and breezes of 5-15 mph from the south; that cloud cover will be high level clouds giving our skies a hazy look. Heading into the afternoon, the clouds will continue to build and the winds will strengthen to 10-20 mph with higher wind gusts.
By the mid-afternoon, showers & thunderstorms will start to move into SWFL from the north affecting Sarasota, Charlotte and DeSoto counties first.
That line of rain will continue to drop south through SWFL producing heavy rainfall and strong thunderstorm wind gusts. Later this evening the line of rain will be moving through Collier, Hendry and Glades counties eventually moving into South Florida. The cold front associated with the rain will push through the area by Tuesday morning leading to clearing skies and more comfortable conditions.
