LEE COUNTY, Fla. - The price for a gallon of regular is expected to dip below the $3.00 mark in the coming days, news welcomed by drivers.

No complaints as drivers across Southwest Florida are seeing big relief at the pump.

"Right now the prices are very good," said one driver.

The prices are so good, they're the lowest we've seen in the region and nationally for quite some time.

The national average for a gallon of regular is $3.18, with gas prices averaging here in Southwest Florida slightly higher at $3.20.

"It's great,it should be that way," said another motorist, "it used to cost me $100 to fill up [my truck], but now it's $70."

"It's a good price, but if it went down to three dollars it will be even better," said another driver.

He's on to something.

Gas prices in our region are expected to dip below $3.00 for a gallon of regular says AAA Spokeswoman Jessica Brady.

"I think we'll probably see prices bottom out anywhere from $2.85 to $3.00 a gallon," said the spokeswoman.

Experts credit a recent rise in the value of the dollar and an increase in domestic oil production for the plunge at the pump.

This means more money in your pocket, to spend anyway you'd like.

"More money in my pocket to go out and party," said one excited driver.
