PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Charlotte County deputies arrested a 77-year-old Punta Gorda man in connection with a disturbance over the number of items allowed in the express lane of a Walmart.

Deputies say William Edward Golladay was waiting in the line at the Walmart on 5001 Taylor Road Saturday when he noticed the customer in line in front of him had too many items for the check out line limited to 20 items.

The victim said Golladay stood behind him and started counting out the number of items in his basket.  The victim, who was using an electric shopping cart, tried to explain that he couldn't use another register.

After a verbal argument between the two men, the victim says Golladay grabbed a shopping cart and rammed it into the victim's right elbow.

Witnesses and store management escorted Golladay out of the store but he returned and walked towards the victim again with fists raised before store management stopped him and took out of the store again.

Golladay was charged with felony battery on a victim over 65.
