SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. - An early morning crash involving a dump truck closed parts of southbound I-75 in Sarasota County Wednesday morning.

The Florida Highway Patrol says at about 2:35 a.m. a dump truck struck the Ponce Deleon Boulevard overpass.

The Florida Department of Transportation has bridge inspectors on scene to determine the extent of the damage to the bridge.

Until the bridge has been repaired and determined safe for traffic the southbound lanes will remain closed.  That closure could take 24 to 48 hours.

The Florida High Patrol says the driver of the dump truck had left the bed in the upright position when it collided with the overpass.  The driver then fled the scene on foot.

The driver was found by North Port police a short time later.  56-year-old Bonnie Ramsingh of North Miami has been charged with leaving the scene of the crash and driving without a proper endorsement.
