Collier traffic stop yields drugs, children and arrests

GOLDEN GATE, Fla. - Collier County deputies were overwhelmed by the smell of marijuana during a routine traffic stop Thursday at the corner of Pine Ridge Road and Collier Boulevard.

A deputy had pulled over an Audi for running a stop sign.  They found two adults in the car along with two children riding in the back seat and the strong smell of pot. 

A search of the vehicle not only uncovered any marijuana, but deputies found cocaine and prescription drugs.

The children were taken into protective custody while 32-year-old Steve Gabriel of Naples and 30-year-old Francia Pompilus from South Carolina were arrested on various drug related charges.

Pompilus, the children's mother, was charged with child neglect.  Gabriel was charged with driving on a non-valid license and presenting a false ID>
