CAPE CORAL, Fla. - A Cape Coral man is behind bars, charged with shooting at police during a drunken disturbance early Monday morning at the Crossings Apartments on Hancock Bridge Creek Boulevard.

Cape Coral police responded to a call about a fight at apartment #303.  While speaking to a subject in the parking lot police were told subjects inside the apartment had weapons.

Police approached the apartment and made contact with 52-year-old Frank Affronti Sr. and his son, 23-year-old Frank Affronti Jr.

As police spoke with the son about the fight, Affronti Sr. went inside his apartment and began yelling obscenities through the door at officers.  He yelled at his son, "If they do what they came here to do, I'll get them."

The son tried to calm his father through the door, but Affronti yelled, "Why are you protecting them.?"  Seconds later, three gunshots rang out as bullets penetrated the apartment door.

Police got the son to safety, and took up positions of cover outside of the apartment. After a brief exchange of words Affronti crawled out of his apartment on his hands and knees.

He was charged with two counts of assault on a law enforcement officer and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
