ARCADIA, Fla. - The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash that occurred Friday night involving a bicyclist in front of the Walmart in Arcadia.

The FHP identified the bicyclist Saturday afternoon as 63-year-old Joseph Albert Adams of Arcadia.

It happened at about 7:29 p.m. when Adams tried to bike across SR 70 and was hit by a car driven by 32-year-old Lisa Summerlin of Clarksville, Florida.  Summerlin told troopers she tried to avoid hitting the bicyclist.

Adams flew over the hood of her car and landed in the center of the road where another car driven by 50-year-old Edna Johnson of Fort Myers hit the bicyclist a second time.

The FHP says Johnson did not stay at the scene of the crash and continued to drive away.  A trooper later found her walking down the roadway and she was arrested on a DUI charge.

Adams died at the scene.  The crash remains under investigation.
