Bicyclist killed in Estero crash

ESTERO, Fla. - An 80-year-old Estero man was killed Sunday afternoon while out riding his bike.

The Florida Highway Patrol says 71-year-old Donna Rice of Fort Myers was making a right turn from a stop sign from Porto Romano Drive onto southbound Ben Hill Griffin Parkway.

The FHP says Rice failed to see Jacobus Vancaulil riding his bike as the pulled out into his path.  Vancaulil's bike struck the right side of Rice's BMW sending him into the car's windshield. 

Rice accelerated forward into the median of Ben Hill Griffin Parkway and hit a light pole.  Rice fell into the median.

He was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Charges in the crash are pending.
