Mobile food pantry to feed the needy in Charlotte County
The Harry Chapin Food Bank will continue to bring its Mobile Food Pantry to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Punta Gorda in July and August. The mobile unit will be open from 10 a.m. to noon on these Mondays: July 14 and 28, and August 11 and 25. The pantry provides free food to needy families and individuals in Charlotte County. The church is located on the corner of U.S. 41 South and W. Charlotte Avenue. The pantry truck will be located in the parking lot across W. Charlotte from the church. Recipients are asked to bring a bag or box to carry their food. The pantry’s 2014 Punta Gorda visits began in February and is being hosted by the Sacred Heart Conference of St. Vincent de Paul, an international Catholic lay organization founded in 1833 to serve the poor, regardless of religious affiliation. St. Vincent provides food, clothing, home furnishings, and financial assistance to individuals and families in need. The Harry Chapin Food Bank, headquartered in Ft. Myers, supplies St. Vincent and other local food pantries in Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Hendry and Glades counties.
