Greater Naples YMCA Prayer Breakfast to feature Super Bowl champion Matt Birk on March 26
Former Minnesota Viking and Baltimore Ravens NFL Man of the Year Matt Birk will be the guest speaker at the Greater Naples YMCA’s prayer breakfast on March 26 at 7:30 a.m. at the Hilton Naples. A graduate of Harvard University, Birk is a two-time All Pro, six-time Pro Bowl selection and 2013 Super Bowl champion. He is also the founder of the HIKE Foundation, which provides at-risk children with the educational opportunities needed to excel in the classroom and in life. Established in 2002, the HIKE Foundation impacts the lives of at-risk children by providing interactive programs and resources needed to guide a child through the key educational transitions between elementary school, middle school, high school and college. “As a father of six, I have a special place in my heart for reaching the youth in our community,” said Birk. “The Y has done a tremendous job providing programs and services that help children and teens reach their full potential by fostering positive growth physically, mentally and socially. Our goals are in full alignment and I am honored to be a part of the prayer breakfast program.” “Not only does Matt’s foundation exemplify the Y’s core values of youth development and social responsibility, but we were also drawn to his dedication to nutrition and healthy living,” said Paul Thein, president of the Greater Naples YMCA. “After 15 years in the NFL, Matt committed himself to diet and exercise and lost 75 pounds. A main focus of the Y’s renovation process is the building of the Healthy Living Center which will greatly expand and transform the Y facility to better meet community wellness needs. He’s a great example of what we are hoping to achieve.” Individual tickets to the prayer breakfast are $100 and table sponsorships begin at $1,000. All proceeds will go toward the Y’s rebuilding efforts and the $1.5 million matching pledge from the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation. Guests will also receive an autographed copy of Birk’s book, “All Pro Wisdom: The 7 Choices that Lead to Greatness.” Sponsors of the Greater Naples YMCA prayer breakfast include BUILD Construction, Shula’s Steak House and Hilton Naples.
