Arthritis, It's No Walk In The Park

  • Print

The event titled “Arthritis, It’s No Walk In the Park” will be held at Lakes Park in Fort Myers on Wednesday February 5th from 10am-1pm. The special event aims to support local residents who struggle with Arthritis and educate those who are not familiar with the disease. Speakers, vendors, equipment demonstrations, health care professionals, and more, will be available to review ways to make living with Arthritis more manageable. “The statistics are sobering. I think there are many people in our community who do not recognize the broad impact of Arthritis.” says Scott Strachan, an RN with Abby Services In-Home Care for Seniors. According to research published by the Centers for Disease Control, Arthritis is the leading cause of disability in the United States. Arthritis affects over fifty million Americans, which translates to one out of every five adults. Of those diagnosed with Arthritis, two thirds are under the age of sixty five. The American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons reports that Arthritis is a more frequent cause of activity limitation than heart disease, cancer, or even diabetes. To find out more about the event please contact: Abby Services at 239-590-0861.
