Best-selling authors to join Gov. Jeb Bush for Celebration of Reading in Bonita Springs
For the 14th consecutive year, Gov. Jeb Bush brings the Florida Celebration of Reading event to Southwest Florida in February to help raise funds for the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy, which teaches parents and children to learn to read together through innovative family literacy programs. The Celebration of Reading event includes dinner and begins at 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14 at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort & Spa in Bonita Springs. Gov. Bush is the co-chair of his mother’s national foundation, working alongside his sister, Doro Bush Koch. This year’s New York Times best-selling authors will read from their works during the event and sign books after the celebration dinner: -Teri Hatcher, actress and author of “Burnt Toast and Other Philosophies on Life,” is best known for her roles on “Desperate Housewives” and “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.” -Mary Pope Osborne is the author of the award-winning “Magic Tree House” series of children’s adventure books that first debuted in 1992. The series now includes 50 fiction books. -Debbie Macomber is the author of the popular “Cedar Cove” novels, currently a Hallmark Channel television series. Macomber has more than 170 million copies of 100 titles in print worldwide. -Eric Draper is author of “Front Row Seat: A Photographic Portrait of the Presidency of George W. Bush.” Prior to serving eight years as the president’s chief photographer, Draper covered domestic and international news and sporting events for the Associated Press. The Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy celebrates its 25-year anniversary in 2014. The foundation works to ensure each child’s lifelong success by preparing them to learn in school, while providing parents a second chance to complete their education. Florida’s Celebration of Reading has raised nearly $24 million for family literacy programs since the program was launched under then-Gov. Bush in 2001. Major Florida Celebration of Reading partners include AT&T, Comcast, Dollar General Foundation, Florida Lottery, Florida Trend, Prudential Financial, Publix Super Markets Charities, Scholastic, State Farm, SunTrust Foundation, Walmart, Walt Disney World and Wells Fargo. Individual tickets to the Celebration of Reading are $250 per person, with sponsorships available that include exclusive events such as a private luncheon with the Bush family and guest authors presented by celebrity Chef Art Smith, as well as a VIP reception and preferred seating at the reading event.
