14th Annual Southwest Florida Blues Festival
The 14th Annual Southwest Florida Blues Festival is slated to get underway at high noon on Saturday November 23, 2013. It’s always a challenge to present a show that is rich in talent and one that will satisfy the festivalgoer’s expectations. We have had a lot of great entertainers in the past and this year promises to be no exception. In fact this year will showcase one of the true Blues Rock Legends on tour today, featuring “Johnny Winter.” For many festival goers this may be a once in a lifetime opportunity, for others it’s a chance to revisit some of your fondest memories of blues infused rock and roll. As usual this year’s line-up will be made up of top-level artists from across the country, including at least one of our local favorites “Stringtown.” There is an important change to this year’s event that festivalgoers should know about. Since we were unable to re-negotiate our previous terms at the German American Club; this year’s event will be held at the Sun-splash water park grounds in Cape Coral, located at 400 Santa Barbara Blvd., just south of Pine Island Road. Sun-splash water park is located about 2 ½ miles east of last year’s location, the facility has more than ample parking and should prove to be a good location for this year’s event. The actual water park will be closed and only used to stage this event. The Matlacha Mariners who produced this event are asking everyone to bring, “at least one (1) non-perishable food item” to donate for the local food pantry, all food donations will be collected at or near the main gate. For complete details and updates about this year’s event please go to, http://www.SouthwestFloridaBluesFestival.com OR www.MatlachaMariners.org. Everyone always asks, when will the Blues Festival return to Pine Island and all we can say at this time is probably not until we have found a suitable “long-term location”. If you think you have an option please let us know by contacting a Mariner board member at, www.MatlachaMariners.org/MMI_BOD_1.htm. As usual this is an outdoor event and seating is not provided, beach chairs, and sunscreen are always encouraged but no coolers, no open containers or pets are allowed (except service pets with documentation). This is a 501c3 nonprofit event your donations may be tax deductible ask your accountant, all proceeds will go to education and our other local charities. Refer to our website for details.
