Mobile food pantry to feed the needy
The Harry Chapin Food Bank will have a Mobile Food Pantry at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Punta Gorda from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, September 27, and again on Friday, October 11, providing free food to needy families and individuals in Charlotte County. The church is located on the corner of U.S. 41 South and W. Charlotte Avenue. The mobile pantry truck will be located in the parking lot across W. Charlotte from the church. Recipients are asked to bring a bag or box to carry their food. The pantry is being hosted by the Sacred Heart Conference of St. Vincent de Paul, an international Catholic lay organization founded in 1833 to serve the poor, regardless of religious affiliation. St. Vincent provides food, clothing, home furnishings, and financial assistance to individuals and families in need. The Harry Chapin Food Bank, headquartered in Ft. Myers, supplies St. Vincent and other local food pantries in Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Hendry and Glades counties.
