Description:

Golfers and looking for a way to give back can put a little feel-good into their swing at the 2nd Annual Golf Fore Autism Charity Golf Tournament on Saturday, September 28, 2013. The tournament at Grandezza Country Club in Estero, will benefit Adonis Autism Assistance Foundation (AAAF), a volunteer-run organization that raises funds to offer grants for autism-related expenses for children and adults in Southwest Florida. The cost is $100 per player and includes lunch. AAAF strives to enhance the quality of life for children and adults living with autism in Lee, Collier and Charlotte counties and raises funds through special events including their annual Flamingo Flocking. Grants include the Richard and Maureen Bashaw Grant for autism-related services and the Andrew D. McBride Grant for autism-related services for music, dance or equine therapy. Tournament co-chair Robbie Powell has a seven year old son with autism. “Our family is blessed to have the resources to provide support and therapy for our son to allow him to succeed, unfortunately many families do not.” said Powell. “Adonis Autism Assistance Foundation allows individuals with autism the opportunity to participate in summer camp, recreation, respite and therapies.” “Today 1 in 88 children, 1 in every 54 boys, is affected by autism,” said Beth Bashaw Cameron, Vice President of AAAF and the sister of an adult with autism. “The funding that AAAF provides is needed more than ever by local families struggling to provide for their loved ones on the autism spectrum.” Sponsorship opportunities are also available.
