NCB Final Performance of 40th Season and Announcement of Scholarship Recipients
The Naples Concert Band (NCB), under the direction of Harris Lanzel, will host its final concert of the season on Friday, April 13 at 7:00 p.m. at the Cambier Park Band Shell in Naples. This special performance will feature lighter concert fare, including the vocal artistry of Jenny Bintliff, Peggy Fredrickson, and Craig Greusel. These talented vocalists will be singing a montage of 1920’s songs entitled “Twentiana” and Rodgers and Hammersteins’s “The King and I”. Charles Carter’s “Overture For Winds”, Chuck Mangione’s “Children of Sanchez”, Michael Brown’s “The Genius of Ray Charles”, and “Selections from Mamma Mia”, are just a few of the other musical gems that will be presented. In addition, the Naples Concert Band student members will be recognized and this season’s student scholarships will be announced. Over the years the Naples Concert Band has awarded $88,550 to approximately 75 students, many of them winning multiple awards. The 2012 Naples Concert Band scholarship recipients are as follows: • Trace Hance is a graduating senior from Gulf Coast High School and has been a member of the NCB for four years. He has performed a solo, as well as conducted the Band this season. • Alan Davis began playing with the band too late in the season to meet the participation qualifications for this year, so this scholarship is a token of the Band’s appreciation. • Kathryn Calleros is a first-year Band member and a graduating senior at Barron Collier High School. • Hannah Wiley is a first-year Band member and a homeschooled freshman. This Naples Concert Band performance is presented by IMA Creative. Guests are encouraged to arrive early with lawn chairs and blankets for seating. Admission is free, with donations appreciated. Donations received at each concert go toward student scholarships, which are awarded each year to deserving student members of the band. The Naples Concert Band is a non-profit organization dedicated to entertaining the community with old-fashioned concerts in the park. The Band is currently in its 40th season offering free concerts to the Southwest Florida community.
