Edison Mall, Fort Myers’ premier retail destination, will welcome students from local high schools to compete in a district-wide DECA competition on Fri., Jan. 20 at 8 a.m in the Dillard’s court. Students will participate in individual and team competitions in subjects such as sports marketing, finance, hospitality and more, in hopes of representing Lee/Collier County at the state-wide conference in Orlando later this year. Students from Barron Collier High School, Ida S. Baker High School and Oasis Charter High School will compete in 11 different areas. Each student will participate in a role playing activity as a manager or assistant manager of a business and will be given 10 minutes to compile responses to a series of questions. The answers will be judged by local business professionals, who will play the role of supervisors. The DECA program is a Career and Technical Student Organization recognized worldwide for preparing high school and college students for professional careers in marketing, entrepreneurship, finance and more. Alumni of the program, as well as business professionals, also participate in the organization, offering their extensive knowledge and experience to future business professionals.
