1st Annual "Phantom of the Swamp" Adventure

  • Print

You may have been to Babcock Ranch before, but you've never seen the swamp like this! For the first time in it's history, Babcock Wilderness Adventures is inviting the public to join them on October 28th and October 29th for an evening exploration of the Telegraph Cypress Swamp and other areas on the Babcock Ranch. An event not to be missed, the evening will include, food, crafts a chance to meet "real-life" cowboys and discover the sights and sounds of the swamp as darkness approaches. Lumber baron and patriarch of the Babcock Family Edward Vose Babcock, originally purchased the land now known as Babcock Ranch for its abundant stands of Longleaf Pine. It is the logging industry which has given rise to the legend well known on the Babcock Ranch, the Phantom of the Swamp. We'll spin the tale of how the story of the Phantom came to be then take you through the areas where he is believed to roam. Even if the Phantom eludes our prying eyes, we'll encounter the sights and sounds of the wildlife that comes alive in the swamp at dusk as they begin to stir and become more active in their prime time. Nocturnal animals abound on Babcock Ranch. Attendees will enjoy a meal catered by The Gator Shack, complete a Halloween themed craft, have a chance to browse our fall collection of merchandise in the Babcock Country Store and even meet some of our cowboys and hear the "crack" of their whips that they use to herd some of the ranch's cattle, just like the cowboys on the ranch did almost 100 years ago. The evening's culminating activity will be an hour long twlight tour of the Telegraph Cypress Swamp and other areas on the Babcock Ranch. The event will take place on October 28th and 29th, 2011. It will begin at 4:00 pm and conclude at sunset (approximately 6:45pm). Cost*: $19.95 for adults/seniors/youth (age 13 ) $12.95 for children (ages 3-12) * Sorry, no gift certificates will be accepted at this special event.
