Evening with Underwater Explorer Barry Clifford
Lee Memorial Health System Foundation will host world renowned underwater explorer and diver Barry Clifford. Clifford is the only person ever to have found a full pirate shipwreck. Clifford made world headlines in 1984 with his discovery of the pirate shipwreck Whydah wrecked in a storm off Cape Cod, Massachusetts in 1717. Over 200,000 artifacts and treasures from the wreck were in tact and, as of 2011, were still being recovered and brought to the surface. Clifford's findings have been remarkably educational for historians and have changed the way we view pirates, their habits and lifestyle. Clifford will share his amazing story in support of The Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida Capital Campaign. Clifford will share his tales of discovery in a speech entitled: "Whydah Expedition---The Legacy Left Behind". The evening will include a plated dinner featuring island cuisine, cocktails and silent and live auctions full of trips and treasures.
