SkyWarn 4 Weather Forecaster

About Jim

While growing up in Chicago, I knew at a young age I wanted to get into broadcasting.  I grew up watching Ray Raynor, John Coleman, and Harry Caray, three names that may or may not mean anything to you, but they all had one thing in common.  They enjoyed what they did, and visibly had fun when they were on the air.  I had fun watching them, and figured it would probably be even more fun behind the microphone or camera.

My first job in broadcasting was hosting a morning radio program at a Rock and Roll radio station in Decatur, Illinois.  Soon after, the local TV station asked me if I was interested in doing weekend weather, and I had the great opportunity to study weather, and also learn on the job from meteorologists who had been in the business for 25+ years.  I was doing radio 5 days a week, and weekend weather Saturday and Sunday.  I didn't have a day off for 2 ½ years, and loved it.

Since devoting my energies full time to weather, I've worked in Rhinelander Wisconsin, an additional stint in Decatur, and then moved to Fort Myers in 1995 to forecast the weather for Southwest Florida.  I'm proud to say during my tenure I was voted best weathercaster in Southwest Florida in the News-Press reader's poll for 6 consecutive years.  I also play the tuba, (not a typo), and perform regularly in Southwest Florida with Pat O'Brien's Palm City Jazz.  I'm also allowed to play the National Anthem and Take Me Out to the Ballgame at Hammond Stadium for the Twins and Miracle games periodically.  (Yes, you CAN play the National Anthem on the tuba)  I'm married to my wife Samantha, and together we are very involved with local Animal Services and the fight to reduce euthanasia.  On the weekends, I regularly enjoy beating my close friends at golf, even if it is getting a little old.

I hope you'll join Amy Patrick and me every weeknight for Fox 4 News at 10pm.  We'll give you all the information you need and hopefully end your night with a smile.
