GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) - Preliminary figures show Florida's population went up slightly in 2009 after a 1-year decline broke a steady string of growth dating to the end of World War II. The University of Florida reported today that the state added an estimated 21,000 residents last year.
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - The mother of a Walt Disney World monorail pilot killed last year accuses her son's former boss of leaving his post and creating a dangerous situation. Austin Wuennenberg's mother accuses a monorail manager of creating a dangerous situation by taking an on-duty meal break with other workers and leaving the monorail control tower unstaffed.
OCALA, Fla. (AP) - Authorities are investigating the fatal shootings of 2 people and a cat, who were all found inside a north Florida apartment. Authorities say they believe the two are mother and son and that they apparently died from gunshot wounds.
OCALA, Fla. (AP) - Animal services in north Florida confiscated 75 cats, a parrot and a golden retriever from a doublewide mobile home. The 54-year-old homeowner was transported yesterday to a local mental health treatment facility under the Baker Act.
